Elizabeth Dill

DEAN, UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

Elizabeth Dill is the Dean of the California State University, Long Beach Library, where she provides leadership and strategic direction for the R2 library. She has held several academic library leadership positions, including Director of University Libraries at the University of Hartford and Director of Library Services at Troy University, Dothan. Dill earned her MLIS from Valdosta State University and her MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. She is an active member of the Council of Library Deans consortium, where she was appointed the inaugural Chair of its DEIA Standing Committee.

Dill co-edited the book, Intersections of Open Educational Resources and Information Literacy, published by the Association of College and Research Libraries, now in its third printing. She also completed Harvard University’s prestigious “Library Leadership in a Digital Age” program. Dill has written and presented extensively at state, national, and international conferences, championing diversity, open access, and the evolving role of academic libraries in higher education.

CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, LONG BEACH

Dean, University Library

​Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, responsible for the strategic and administrative leadership of the CSU flagship’s library including overseeing all daily library operations, managing an annual general fund budget of over $8 million, representing the library at all university and community functions, and managing unionized staff of over 56 FTE (20 library faculty, 36+ staff and 3 administrators), along with 80 – 100 student employees.

 

Supervises and manages overall functions of faculty of probationary, tenured, FERP, and lecturer faculty librarians. Responsible for RTP review of library faculty, their yearly assignments, and annual evaluations. Provides leadership in planning for new and revised services, building renovation projects, and policy and procedures. Cultivates external relations and fundraising

opportunities with public and private sectors in support of the University Library. Serves on Provost’s Council, Deans’ Council, and the President’s Extended Cabinet.

Accomplishments:

• Initiated, developed, and manage a certificate (of four credit-bearing classes), an AI microcredential, and a credit-bearing dual enrollment class through the College of Professional and Continuing Education for library impact and ongoing revenue generation

• Acquired California Congressman Alan Lowenthal’s congressional collection and $130,000 gift (with University Relations and Development)

• Serves at the inaugural DEIA Standing Committee Chair for the California State University’s Council of Library Deans

• Implemented, led, and managed BIPOC Speakers’ Series, Faculty Research Series, and Book Talks/Launches

• Launched DEIA Working Group to create library commitment statement, diversity strategic plan, and facilitate the BIPOC Speakers’ Series

• Appointed Inaugural Chair of the CSU’s Council of Library Deans DEIA Standing Committee

• Established “Beach Bookmarks,” a high school information literacy and outreach program with Long Beach Unified School District to provide training and mentorship to school librarians in information literacy instruction.
